Project Fish and Hunt 2025 – Built for the Long Haul

Mid to late 2025 is the time I plan to hit the road properly—chasing fish, stalking game, and exploring the best of Australia’s wild country. No frills, just a purpose-built rig, a bit of planning, and a lot of hard-earned freedom.

The kit? My Toyota Hilux Rugged X, paired with a SeaJay 3.98 Creek Masta from Stones Corner Marine mounted on a Swiftco off-road boat trailer. made on the Gold Coast Tough as nails and powered by a Brisbane Marine tiller-steer Mercury outboard, it’s ready for dirt roads, river crossings and remote bush landings. This isn’t a weekend warrior setup—it’s built for serious creek, estuary, and dam impoundments boat.

Top of the hit list: barramundi. Real ones. I’ll be rolling into Queensland’s Lake Monduran first, hunting for the early big fish that cruise those impoundments. From there, it’s north—way north—to the mighty Daly River, the South Alligator, and deep into the Top End.

I plan to be tackling barra across 7 Emu Station, old-school style—camping rough, following the tides, and running the mangroves until something blows up on a hardbody.

That’s the meter club goal: 100cm of chrome muscle in your hands, and the jaw dropping mud-crabs that put a smile that doesn’t fade for days.

Hunting will play its part, too. Along the route, there’ll be windows to stalk pigs, scrub bulls, or whatever the land offers, hopefully a buffalo or 2! I’m not chasing trophies—I’m chasing country, challenge, and the feeling you only get when it all lines up.

This build is still coming together, and I’ll share more as it happens—rig updates, boat mods, river reports, and straight talk about what works when the red dirt kicks up and the mozzies start to bite.

If you're the kind of person who'd rather cast into a tannin-stained creek than sit in traffic, stay tuned. Project Fish and Hunt is about living a bit wild, driving far, and getting back to the good stuff.
